Seven years after first promising to repeal and replace Obamacare (Affordable Care Act), Republicans are no closer. Even after gaining the White House and a majority in Congress. The Tea Party, largely responsible for Donald Trump’s political rise was also responsible for Trump’s failure to repeal Obamacare. The House Freedom Caucus, made up of libertarian leaning Tea Partiers, forced Paul Ryan to pull the replacement last Friday.

Democratic leaders, if there is such a thing anymore, were quick to celebrate. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi were both quick to praise the ACA and insult Republicans.

“They can’t write policy that actually makes sense, they can’t implement the policies they do manage to write, they can’t get their stories straight, and today we’ve learned that they can’t close a deal, and they can’t count votes,” Schumer said, “I also have seen a president break as many promises to working people as this president has done in just over two months.” Pelosi meanwhile said the bill failing is “a victory for the American people.”

While Democrats aren’t wrong in their criticism, it wasn’t all that constructive. Nobody seems to realize that for the last seven years, Democrats have been adamantly defending a Republican idea, while Republicans themselves have been trashing it. If Democrats were true to their so-called values, they would advocate for universal healthcare as much as they can. Now more than ever.

Nevertheless, Obamacare did insure millions of Americans previously uninsurable. To that extent, we should all be grateful for Republican greed and an incompetent Trump Administration. Right? Well, the worst might be yet to come. Obamacare will never be safe under Trump or a Republican majority.

Trump blamed Democrats for the replacement bill’s failure even though Republicans held majorities in both branches of Congress. He added that Obamacare will “explode” and it will be Democrats fault. He then suggested the real “losers” were Schumer and Pelosi.

Trump’s comments might sound laughable at first, and they are. It was pure Republican incompetence that cost them the vote, but losing that vote could be the greatest thing Trump could have asked for. First, he had a campaign promise to fulfill. Robbing twenty million people of their healthcare would have come back to haunt him in 2020. Now he can at least say he tried.

Historically though, Republicans love to preach to Americans that government doesn’t work. They go out of their way to prove it once they obtain office. They cut social spending, lower taxes, balloon the deficit, etc. and then blame Democrats. Does anyone think things are about to change?

Trump’s secretary for health and human services, Tom Price, is now administering the Affordable Healthcare Act’s programs. According to the New York Times, Obamacare gives broad authority to the executive branch to shape health care policy. The ACA has been driven by Obama administration priorities thus far, but you must know that will change.

I have no doubt that the Trump administration will do whatever it can to sabotage Obamacare just to prove Trump and Republicans right. It is a tested and true policy that has worked for years. Mess something up and blame Democrats. Hell, Trump just did it with the failure of the Ryancare Bill, didn’t he? In this era where truth doesn’t matter, who is going to notice?

So, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi can celebrate all they want, but Obamacare will explode. Trump will make sure it happens. In his own mind he will be right in calling them losers, but the only losers when the dust settles will be the average American… Trump voter.
